Woman in Alleged Siddaramaiah Sting Video Tells Police She Never Met Him
· India · Indian Express, Times of India
The woman featured in a purported sting operation targeting former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has told Bengaluru police she never met the Congress leader. She stated a group approached her in 2023, paid her, and tutored her on what to say in the video, according to an investigating officer. The Central Crime Branch is probing the case after Siddaramaiah filed a complaint on October 6 alleging the video was fabricated to blackmail and defame him. The FIR names the YouTube channel Karnataka Honey Trap and alleges Power TV Managing Director Rakesh Shetty was involved in filming the video in 2023. Shetty secured anticipatory bail on October 23 and has appeared before police multiple times since. The woman also admitted meeting Congress leader and former Karnataka Child Rights Commission chief Kripa Alva.
Why it matters
The development undermines the credibility of a video used to target a senior opposition leader and shifts the investigation toward alleged political blackmail and fabricated evidence.
