Workplace Recycling Rates Lag Behind Home Habits in Wales

· World · BBC News

Only 61% of employees in Wales recycle frequently at work, significantly lower than the 94% who report recycling at home. A survey by the charity Wrap indicates that one in five workers cannot recall seeing recycling facilities at their office. To improve compliance, some businesses have removed individual desk bins in favour of centralized recycling stations. Recruitment firm Acorn by Synergie reported a major reduction in waste after implementing this change at their Newport office. While staff initially resisted the removal of personal bins, the company noted that recycling has now become second nature for employees.

Why it matters

Businesses looking to meet environmental standards or comply with legislation like the Welsh Workplace Recycling Law may need to overhaul office waste infrastructure to bridge the gap between home and work habits.
