World's Tallest Wind Turbine Rises in Eastern Germany

· World · The Independent, Euronews

Engineering firm Gicon has constructed what it describes as the world's tallest wind turbine in Lusatia, southeast of Berlin. The prototype reaches a total height of 365 meters including rotor blades, surpassing the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Built at an existing wind farm, the tower features a hub height of 300 meters to harness stronger and more consistent winds found at higher altitudes. Chief Executive Jochen Grossmann stated that the facility can produce more than twice as much electrical energy as conventional turbines. The prototype is scheduled for official inauguration on November 19, 2026.

Why it matters

Extra-tall wind turbines could significantly increase renewable energy generation while reducing the land area required for wind farms.
