Wounded Captain And Off-Duty Pilots Save Flydubai Flight From Disaster

· World · India Today, The Hindu

A flydubai flight carrying 174 passengers narrowly avoided a catastrophic disaster at 30,000 feet after a mid-air crisis. Indian captain Smit Machchhar was brutally stabbed inside the cockpit by the co-pilot in an apparent hijacking attempt, causing the aircraft to plunge 17,000 feet in two minutes. Despite severe wounds and heavy blood loss, Captain Machchhar managed to unlock the cockpit door before collapsing, allowing passengers to overpower the co-pilot. Two off-duty pilots traveling on the same flight then stepped in to stabilize the aircraft and execute a safe emergency landing in Saudi Arabia. The aircraft sustained major damage with most of its rudder ripped off during the violent descent.
