XPeng Bets Humanoid Robots Will Outperform Electric Vehicle Margins
· Business · Hindustan Times, Wall Street Journal
XPeng Co-President Brian Gu projects that the company's robotics unit will eventually achieve profit margins surpassing its core electric-vehicle business. Valued at over $6.3 billion, the Guangzhou-based firm plans to start mass producing its humanoid robot, named Iron, this year. Iron features electronic skin and a bionic spine, and Gu estimates it could deliver a hardware gross margin exceeding 50%. This projection compares with the 12.1% gross margin recorded by XPeng's vehicle segment in the second quarter. The robotics unit recently raised more than $900 million from institutional investors to scale up production and commercial development.
