Yemen's decade-long civil war has escalated significantly after the Houthi rebel group launched a multi-location offensive against Saudi Arabian-backed government forces. The renewed hostilities mark the most serious flare-up since a United Nations-brokered truce temporarily halted large-scale fighting in 2022. As part of the renewed conflict, the Houthis launched an attack on southern Saudi Arabia targeting oil facilities, leaving dozens of people wounded. The Houthis, an armed group emerging in the 1990s, control the capital Sanaa and are backed by Iran as part of the regional axis of resistance. Riyadh originally intervened in the conflict in March 2015 leading a military coalition to restore the government of then-President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi.
