Yemen Health System Faces Collapse Due To Funding Shortfalls

Yemen’s Minister of Public Health and Population, Qasim Buhaibeh, warns that health services in several areas may face total collapse due to severe funding shortages. As of June 2026, only 17 percent of the required medical funding has been secured for the 19.3 million people needing assistance. The ongoing conflict between Houthi forces and the internationally recognised government has displaced over 134,550 people since June, further straining facilities that are operating at less than 50 percent capacity. These challenges are compounded by outbreaks of cholera, measles, and polio, alongside widespread chronic malnutrition among children under five.
