YouTube announced a new feature called custom feeds that lets users describe in their own words the kind of videos they want recommended. The feature uses Google's Gemini AI model to build personalized feeds based on user prompts, which are then pinned to the top of the YouTube homepage. Examples include feeds for video podcasts during commutes or relaxing commentary videos to unwind. YouTube states the custom feeds will not replace the main recommendation feed but will appear as separate tabs for easy access. Support for creating multiple custom feeds will roll out on web and mobile starting next month. The feature follows similar AI-powered feed-building tools introduced by platforms like Bluesky, Meta's Threads and Instagram, X, and Spotify.
