Yuvraj Singh Calls for Abhishek Sharma and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in ODIs
· Sports · Times of India, Cricbuzz
Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has stated that young batters Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan, and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi deserve regular opportunities in 50-over cricket. Speaking to PTI on October 31, 2026, Yuvraj argued that overlooking these players for the ODI team fails to do justice to their talent. He acknowledged that the presence of experienced squad members makes securing a spot difficult for rising prospects. Meanwhile, Abhishek recently dismissed a playful social media challenge from Yuvraj to score a 12-ball fifty, noting that such a feat is exceptionally rare in professional cricket.
Why it matters
Yuvraj Singh's public endorsement puts pressure on national selectors to integrate rising talents like Abhishek Sharma and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi into India's ODI setup.
