Yuzvendra Chahal Announces Red-Ball Retirement To Pursue White-Ball Return

· Sports · Sportstar, Times of India

India leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has announced his retirement from red-ball cricket, conceding that his long-held ambition of earning a Test cap is no longer practical. Chahal, who never played a Test match for India, expressed contentment with his first-class career, which included his final appearance at Lord's. The 35-year-old spinner made it clear he remains available for limited-overs cricket, vowing to fight for a comeback in India's ODI and T20I squads. He last represented India in August 2023 during a T20I against the West Indies, while his final ODI appearance came against New Zealand in January 2023. Chahal stressed that his hunger to play international cricket for India in white-ball formats is still very much alive.

Why it matters

The decision marks the end of a domestic red-ball career for one of India's premier white-ball spinners as he refocuses entirely on limited-overs selection.
