Zeeshan Siddique Appointed New Mumbai NCP Chief
· India · Indian Express, Hindustan Times
The Nationalist Congress Party has appointed MLC Zeeshan Siddique as its new Mumbai President to expand the party's presence in the city. The party currently holds only one elected legislator in Mumbai, Sana Malik, and has no presence in the civic body. Zeeshan Siddique, 34, previously served as a Congress MLA from Bandra East and Mumbai Youth Congress chief before joining the NCP in October 2024 following the murder of his father, Baba Siddique. In the 2024 Assembly polls, he contested unsuccessfully from the NCP against Shiv Sena UBT candidate Varun Sardesai. The appointment is expected to cause internal friction as party members still view him as an outsider close only to Rajya Sabha MP Parth Pawar.
Why it matters
The leadership change reshapes the NCP's organisational setup in Mumbai as the party attempts to build a stronger political base in the city ahead of upcoming local challenges.
