Zelenskyy accuses Russia of using cluster munitions in Kyiv strikes

· World · CBS News

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accused Russia of using cluster warheads in overnight strikes on Kyiv and multiple other locations. At least four people were killed and 34 injured, including five children, according to Ukraine's foreign ministry. Zelenskyy stated three ballistic missiles with cluster warheads detonated in the air, striking within a 400-meter radius. Russia, which did not sign the 2008 Convention on Cluster Munitions, faces international bans on the weapon that spreads smaller bomblets over wide areas.

Why it matters

The use of cluster munitions in populated areas directly endangers civilian lives and infrastructure, violating international norms and intensifying the humanitarian toll of the conflict.
