Zelenskyy Agrees to Energy Ceasefire if Russia Reciprocates
· World · Al Jazeera, ABC News (AU), NDTV
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has confirmed Ukraine's readiness to halt strikes on energy infrastructure, provided Russia agrees to a reciprocal ceasefire. This announcement follows a claim by Donald Trump that both nations have already reached an agreement regarding an energy-sector truce. The proposal aims to de-escalate attacks on critical power sites that have been frequent targets throughout the ongoing conflict. Russia has not yet issued a formal response to the reported agreement or Trump's statement. The development marks a potential shift in the tactical approach to the war as international pressure for a pause in hostilities continues.
Why it matters
A successful energy ceasefire could prevent further destruction of Ukraine's power grid, potentially alleviating the humanitarian crisis for civilians as winter approaches.
