Zelenskyy Presses US As Envoy Witkoff Heads to Russia
· World · Bloomberg, Al Jazeera, Euronews
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Donald Trump's envoy Steven Witkoff in Oslo on Tuesday, hailing the talks as positive amid an escalating public feud between Kyiv and Washington. Zelenskyy cited the constructive dialogue as he sought to reset relations with the US ahead of Witkoff's separate trip to Moscow. The Ukrainian leader's conciliatory push comes after weeks of heightened tension following a contentious Oval Office meeting earlier this month. Witkoff's dual travel — first to Oslo, then to Russia — underscores Washington's dual-track diplomatic effort to mediate the conflict.
Why it matters
Zelenskyy's conciliatory outreach aims to preserve critical US support for Ukraine as the war enters its fourth year, with Washington balancing pressure on Moscow while managing Kyiv's frustrations.
