Zoya Akhtar Confirms Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara Sequel

· Entertainment · Indian Express, Times of India, Bollywood Hungama

Zoya Akhtar said on Aug 17 2026 that a sequel to 2011’s Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is being considered. The director noted they are still exploring whether the project feels right for the original characters Arjun, Kabir and Imran. The speculation was reignited by a 2025 ad campaign featuring Hrithik Roshan, Abhay Deol and Farhan Akhtar for Yas Island, which fans mistook for a trailer. Akhtar clarified the campaign was not a film teaser and responded to fan backlash on social media. She also highlighted that critics often see her work as focusing on the angst of the elite, a perception she says does not deter her from telling varied stories. The film earned Rs 153 crore worldwide from a Rs 45 crore budget.

Why it matters

Bollywood fans and the film industry will watch if the beloved 2011 film is revived, potentially affecting future casting and box‑office expectations.
